Focus on Development, a non-governmental organization based in Mississippi Mills, is celebrating Bicycle Month by collecting bikes in reasonable condition to ship to the St. Marc region in Haiti’s Artibonite Valley. Focus on Development works directly in this rural region of central Haiti, with Dieudonne Batraville of Almonte who assists families and their children.
Be it a ride to work, church or to visit family, a bicycle in Haiti offers affordable and practical transportation. Please consider donating your old bikes for this purpose.
Mountain bikes are best, but we install cyclo-cross tires on road bikes, and sell kids bikes we receive locally to generate money for the shipment – so we can accept all bikes.
Donations of money toward the cost of shipping will also be gratefully received.
To donate a bike for Haiti:
Please email Bill Barrie at ABWbikes@gmail.com or call Almonte Bicycle Works at 613-256-5282 to arrange your bicycle drop-off.
Bicycles can be dropped off during business hours at Almonte Bicycle Works, 101 Bridge Street, Almonte. Click here for the location.

Hi,
My daughter(age14), would like to do something similar in the states. Can I ask how did you go about the transport into Haiti?
We have an estimate of 100+ bikes to be shipped in July. Please let me know if you have any ideas on how to get these in to the country.
Thanks!
Andrea Koenig
Will your bikes be containered and then shipped to haiti? Will you have a team on the ground in haiti awaiting this shippment? I’m a senior at WWU in Bellingham WA researching the current transportation problem in Haiti.
