As part of Mississippi Mills Bicycle Month, The Otesha Project will be visiting Almonte and doing a community performance of their play “Reason to Dream”. The Otesha Project is a group of youth between the ages of 18 and 30 who bike across stretches of Canada doing interactive theatre performances about sustainability targeted at youth between grade 6 and grade 12 (but adults will enjoy the show as well!) The theme of this particular Otesha tour is ‘Phenomenal Food’, so to celebrate, we’re pairing their performance with a local food potluck. Interested? Check out the full details below.
The Potluck: Please bring a dish to share with the group. We understand that not everyone has easy access to local ingredients, so we only ask that you try your best to make it as local as possible. Also, the Otesha crew is challenging themselves to follow a mostly vegan (vegetarian if the eggs/dairy are locally and ethically sourced) diet while they’re on their tour, so if you happen to have a vegan specialty you can bring along, that would also be appreciated! Non-vegan/non-vegetarian dishes are of course also welcome for the many omnivores who will be in attendance
Please bring along a reusable plate/bowl/cup/utensils for your own use so we can keep waste to a minimum.
The Play: Although the play is targeted to youth between grade 6 and grade 12, it is suitable and enjoyable for all ages, so don’t hesitate to bring younger children.
RSVP: A formal RSVP is not necessary, but if you know you’re planning to attend, it would be most appreciated if you could get in touch with Rachel Eades to let her know what type of dish you’ll be bringing (appetizer, side, main, dessert, vegetarian, vegan, meat, etc). This will help us ensure variety! Rachel can be reached by email at rachel@typsyouthcentre.org or by phone at 613-256-8485.
Each Otesha group is made up of a group of youth ages 18-30 who spend 1-4 months travelling across a region of Canada by bicycle, stopping in communities along the way to perform vibrant theatrical performances about sustainability and healthy, green lifestyles. The Otesha Project began in 2003, and has since travelled to every corner of the country with their performances – this will be their first time stopping in Almonte and we’re excited to have them!
