Meet at Palms,
78 Mill Street, Almonte
We begin this ride at the coffee shop with a cup of Equator coffee and one of Sally’s morning goodies. If you are arriving by car you’ll find plenty of parking on the market square behind Palms. This ride, about 18 kilometers over mostly paved road, is guided by amateur naturalists and by necessity involves quite a few stops along the way. Binoculars recommended. Last year we spotted 42 different species! Bring your lunch to enjoy at the Mill of Kintail or wait till you return to Palms and let Sally take care of you! I enjoyed this outing very much. It was fun to meet new people and spend a relaxing time with old friends too.
A couple of highlights for me was the Baltimore Oriole nest at the end of the bridge in Blakeney with both parents travelling back and forth with insect food for the young.Another nest iof squealing young was spotted in a hole in a tree in a wooded area along Martin street . When the parent bird flew back with food it was a Hairy Woodpecker.
