Burnt Lands Mountain Bike Ride

18 kilometers (you might get muddy)
* avoid protected sections of Burnt Lands Alvar
* please stay on the trails to protect the fragile ecosystem

We start our ride at Almonte’s traffic circle at the intersection of Appleton Side Road and Ramsay Concession 11A. Head north, and expect hard pack gravel, standing water, mud and exposed bedrock. Follow the tape on the 11th and 12th Concessions and use your map for guidance on Panmure and Ridge Roads.

Note that the trail runs adjacent to the Burnt Lands Alvar, an “Area of Natural and Scientific Interest.” An Alvar is a rare and fragile biological environment on a limestone plain with thin or no soil and, as a result, sparse vegetation. This area, to the east of our marked trail, is off-limits to bicycles as it is a threatened habitat. More info at: nhic.mnr.gov.on.ca

In high summer, our resident mountain biker recommends traveling faster than the MBS (Minimum Bug Speed ) rate of 11 kph to avoid the deer flies!
